Welcome to Week Two!
This past week has been so exciting getting to know all of the students in our class. We have started setting up routines that will help us all year long. I look forward to learning more about your children this week as we share our Brown Bag Items! Students can bring them in anytime this week, and we will find time to share throughout the day. On Tuesday September 12th, we will be hosting a Meet the Teacher night at MMH! A BYOP (Bring Your Own Picnic) will begin in the playground/field at 5:00. From 6:00-7:00 we will open our doors for families to come into the classroom and be shown around by students. I look forward to chatting with you more! Thursday September 14th is Picture Day! These dates will be written in agendas on Monday. Hello All! We have been having such a great year so far with some amazing field trips, fantastic learning opportunities within our school, and fabulous students! I want to send my thanks to all of the wonderful volunteers who have helped us to have a great start. This week has some exciting days ahead. The Scholastic Book Fair is open until Tuesday. Please come in before school, during a recess, or after school to look around at some great reads for your kids. We have begun our Fall food drive. This will run from October 6-27. We are asking students to bring in items, as this is our Spirit Cup challenge for the month of October. The classroom who donates the most food will receive the Spirit Cup! Every second Wednesday our class has the opportunity to read with our Book Buddies in Mrs. McMillan's grade 5 class. They have been wonderful role models for our class so far this year, and this week is another chance for us to meet with them! On the afternoon of Thursday October 20th, and Friday October 21st there is no school for students. It is our district-wide PD days. The Thursday bell will ring at 11:35 for students to head home. This Week At a Glance: Monday Oct. 17 Picture Retakes Book Fair Open Tuesday Oct. 18 Last day for Book Fair Wednesday Oct. 19 Thursday Oct. 20 Bell rings at 11:35 NO SCHOOL IN AFTERNOON Friday Oct. 21 NO SCHOOL Welcome back to another exciting week! We have a few important dates to be aware of. On Tuesday April 26th, our grade 3 class will be swimming at Nicholas Sheran Pool. We still need parent driver volunteers to help transport us to and from the school! If you are able to help out, please e-mail me, call the school, or send a message in your child's agenda on Monday morning. Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered. Tuesday is also Hot Lunch for students in Grades 1-3. On Wednesday, we will be having our final Ukrainian egg decorating day at 12:30-1:50. If you have not already signed up to volunteer, please feel free to come in to assist the students! They have done such an amazing job so far. I would like to say thank you to all of the wonderful students and families who donated to Cancer Awareness during the past 2 weeks. Our very own Marisol was brave enough to shave her head for cancer awareness this week. She did an amazing job and we are all so proud of you! Finally, this is my final full week with the students, as Mrs. Barker will return the following week on Wednesday. Tuesday, May 3rd will be my final day of teaching this year. It has been such a pleasure working with all of your children. If you are looking for updates for your children's schedule at school, please see Mrs. Barker's blog after next week.
Welcome to another week! Last week was very exciting due to the evacuation that happened on Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately, our Ukrainian egg decorating was cancelled as a result. We will be rescheduling the third decorating date for Wednesday April 27th at 12:30-1:50. If you are able to volunteer during that afternoon, please fill in the sheet that will be sent home with students this week. Thank you in advance! This week, we have 2 egg decorating dates: Tuesday April 19th at 12:30-1:50 and Thursday April 21 at 12:30-1:50. If you have not signed up to volunteer, but would like to join us, please send a note in your child's agenda or send me a quick e-mail. This week on Tuesday marks our Cancer Awareness Assembly at 8:30. Some of our wonderful staff and students have volunteered to have their heads shaved for the event. So far, our school has raised over $2000 for Cancer Awareness! We can't wait for the excitement on Tuesday morning!
Welcome to April! I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday! The Easter party on Friday was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who sent snack items for the students to enjoy! We had a great time at our assembly where our class won the Spirit Cup for the month of March! Way to go, everyone! Our class demonstrated wonderful etiquette throughout the day which won us the prize! Everyone looked fabulous!
This week we will be completing our Building Project that we began before Easter. Students have gotten off to a great start building their bridges and towers. We will test them this week and then make any necessary changes. If your child would like to bring in any other recyclable materials, feel free to send it in! Finally, during the first week back after Easter, Mike Mountain Horse will begin working on raising funds for Canadian Cancer Society. Perhaps you have seen some family over the Easter break. We will be doing a cancer walk on April 12 and we are asking our students to collect from family to help with our goal of raising $3000.00 for cancer research. Our beloved Mrs. Wik from preschool will have her head shaved at an assembly on April 19. Any students wishing to do the same are welcome to get a permission form from their teachers. This month is flying by and we are almost done with March! I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers who attended our Galt Museum Building Bridges field trip! It was so much fun, although we could have done with a bit less fog and snow! This week is filled with a few fun events as well.
First, Tuesday is Hot Lunch for grades 1-3. This was the first month where all hot lunch was to be ordered online. This will continue for the rest of the school year. Second, on Thursday we are participating in our Easter Fancy celebration for our Spirit Day! We ask all students to dress up in fancy clothes to celebrate Easter. Throughout the week we will be discussing proper etiquette and manners as well. Thursday will be our Easter Party in the afternoon. Sheets will be sent home with students on Monday that have snack options if you would like to volunteer to send in some food for our party. Any food sent in is appreciated! Thank you in advance! Finally, during the first week back after Easter, Mike Mountain Horse will begin working on raising funds for Canadian Cancer Society. Perhaps you will see some family over the Easter break. Welcome to a new week! I would like to thank everyone who came out to our Celebration of Learning and Parent Teacher Interviews last week. It was so excited to see students sharing their successes with you! This week, we will be continuing our Testing Materials and Designs unit in Science. I will be asking students to bring in any recyclables you may have for our bridge/tower project. Your child will have more information about this project throughout the week. This Thursday March 17th, our Grade 3 class will be taking a bus at 8:45 to the Galt Museum for our Bridges presentation! We will be returning around 11:45. We require 5 parent volunteers for our class to go on this field trip. If you are available, please send back the green form before Tuesday. Thank you in advance!
Welcome back! I am excited to see all of the children's smiling (and maybe a bit tired) faces on Monday! Just a reminder that students will be bringing their completed simple instrument to school on Tuesday. They must also bring the small booklet that describes their instrument. If they have misplaced this sheet, feel free to send me an e-mail or a note in their agenda and then I will send home an extra copy on Monday. Students will be presenting their instrument to the class on Tuesday afternoon. I am so excited to see their creative work! Thank you again for taking on this at-home project with them.
Students will be sent home with a new spelling list in their agendas on Monday. I would like to thank everyone who volunteered and sent snacks to school for our Valentine's Party! It was a blast, and there was enough food for all! It was greatly appreciated. Hello and welcome to February! First, I'd like to give a huge thanks to all of the volunteers who helped with swimming last week. It was such a blast and the kids loved it! Second, thank you to everyone who has signed up to bring food for our Valentine's Day party this Friday. It is so appreciated, and I know the Grade 3s will love the healthy snacks. On Monday, if you have signed up to bring something to the party, a note will be sent home in your child's agenda as a friendly reminder. Some families wrote down 2 options of food items, and I I clarified which item you should send based on other responses from families. We are coming to the end of our Hearing and Sound unit in Science, and students will be sent home a note that outlines a project about building an instrument. Students will create an instrument and complete the small booklet that describes the instrument and building process. The instruments will be presented by the students after returning from Reading Week. I appreciate your cooperation in this at-home project! This week is our Random Acts of Kindness week at Mike Mountain Horse School! The entire Grade 3 team has decided on making and sending valentines to senior citizens around Lethbridge as a way to brighten their Valentine's Day! The students will be hard at work on this project this week. Our Spirit Assembly will take place this Thursday morning, and students are asked to celebrate Valentine's Day by wearing red or pink. Just a gentle reminder that February's Hot Lunch is the last month that order forms will be send home. This means parents must sign up online for their child to receive hot lunch. Order forms can be picked up at the office by a student or parent, but we will not be sending forms home from classroom teachers. If you would like any clarification on this, don't hesitate to call or e-mail me. This week there will be no spelling words, as we have lots of activities going on throughout the week.
